West Brom’s Rondon channeling inner Benteke

West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon admits he used to be in awe of former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba when he watched the Blues hitman in action.

The Ivorian scored 157 goals for Chelsea in 341 appearances in a decorated career at the club that included winning 12 major trophies including the Champions League in 2012.

And ahead of West Brom’s clash with Drogba’s old side, Rondon believes his style of play of late has evolved to resemble another powerful No.9.

The Baggies host Chelsea at The Hawthorns tomorrow night as the Blues look to wrap up their title victory before nearest rivals Spurs play their next fixture.

Christian Benteke

Albion sit eighth in the Premier League and will hope to consolidate their position ahead of Leicester City and Southampton.

And if Rondon’s self-assessment is correct, the Chelsea back four will be in for a tough night in the Midlands.

“Someone I liked to watch is Drogba. Didier Drogba, he was an amazing striker when he was at Chelsea,” said the Venezuelan international who has earned 59 appearances for his country scoring 19 goals in the process.

“But now, my style, maybe [Christian] Benteke. He’s a tall, strong player. But I always watch other strikers.”
