Wenger left purring over ‘complete player’ Alexis

Arsene Wenger has labelled Alexis Sanchez as a “complete player” after his scintillating performance in Arsenal’s victory over Stoke.

Saturday’s 4-1 triumph in the Potteries keeps Arsenal’s slim hopes of qualifying for the Champions League for the 21st successive season alive.

The Chilean provided a superb assist for Mesut Ozil before scoring his 21st Premier League goal of the season and Wenger was left purring over the 28-year-old’s performance.

“He plays now in a position where he can provide now and he can score. He has become a complete player,” the Frenchman said.

“Of course it is an exceptional achievement, to score in double figures and provide in double figures.”

Sanchez picked up a knock and had signalled to the bench to take him off just minutes before scoring the crucial third goal in last weekend’s clash.

And Wenger now admits his main man will have a late fitness test ahead of their must-win game at already-relegated Sunderland on Tuesday night.

He said: “Alexis should have a test. It didn’t look good but with him he is always so eager.

“We have a little bit of a problem with [Laurent] Koscielny but we should have everyone available.

“[Kieran] Gibbs should be available but [Alex] Oxlade-Chamberlain is out.”

A victory over the Black Cats would leave the Gunners a point behind Liverpool going into the final game of the season.
