Barkley: Romelu Lukaku is the ‘perfect striker’
Ross Barkley is thrilled his assists have helped Romelu Lukaku to get within touching distance of the Premier League Golden Boot award.
The in-demand English midfielder has paid homage to the Belgian striker, who has netted 24 times so far in the league and tops the scoring charts.
Barkley has provided eight assists this season, four of which have been for the forward and the Evertonian has described Lukaku as the “perfect striker”.
He said: “Everyone knows what type of player Romelu (Lukaku) is – he’s a big striker who gets loads of goals.
“He’s got a lot of attributes and, playing behind him, you know that once you turn he is going to be making a lot of good runs.
“You try to find him so he can stick it in the back of the net. He’s a great striker to be playing with.
“The assist in the Bournemouth match, I liked [providing] that. That was the fifth goal – I back-heeled it through both centre-halves and Rom ran on to it and put it away with his right foot.
“I would say that [the Bournemouth goal] was instinct and knowing what Romelu is going to be expecting. He’s going to be expecting ball.”
Lukaku is looking to become the first Toffees player to win the Golden Boot in the Premier League era and is currently two goals ahead of Tottenham striker Harry Kane.
Barkley added: “He finishes things off – you put it on a plate for him and he is going to put it away.”
