Iwobi eyes more Arsenal game-time
Alex Iwobi is aiming to re-establish himself in Arsene Wenger’s thinking after coming in from the cold during Arsenal’s midweek victory over Sunderland.
Despite having featured 37 times for the Gunners this term, the 21-year-old midfielder has found game-time hard to come by in the latter stages of the season, with his introduction from the bench on Tuesday night marking his first Arsenal appearance since April 2.
However, the two Alexis Sanchez goals that downed Sunderland 2-0 came after Iwobi was sent on in the 69th minute, with the Nigerian international playing his part in the second, and he is keen to build on his cameo against the Black Cats.
“I need to work hard, create more goalsm and score more goals,” said Iwobi.
“I’ve been trying to do that in training and hopefully get back in the team, so I’ve just been patient.
“The main thing is we’re getting the three points, we’re winning games; so as long as the team is winning, that’s my main concern.
“I guess I had a little impact but it’s [about] the team.
“We upped the tempo, we were able to get the two goals and able to get the result we needed.
“The tempo was very high but it was a great match to be involved in and the result we needed is what we got – we just need to keep fighting for top four.”
