Sterling pays tribute to City stalwart Zabaleta
Pablo Zabaleta waved goodbye to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday in his final Man City home appearance before departing the club at the end of the season.
In 333 appearances for the club he has won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, two League Cups and become a hero to City fans.
His place in the hearts of the Etihad faithful is now secure and the former Espanyol man earned high praise from his team-mates, who paid tribute to the Argentine after Tuesday’s 3-1 win over West Brom.
Raheem Sterling credited the defender’s dedication to City, despite his reduced playing time this season.
“He’s a massive player,” said the former Liverpool man. “Since I’ve been here, he’s given everything on the pitch. His time has been limited as well, so it’s a credit to him then when he gets out there, he always puts in a shift.
“He’s a player that’s played in midfield this season, which shows how versatile he is. He’s an asset to the club and it’s sad to see him leave.
“He’s a real character. He’s one of the people with the biggest say in the dressing room, so you can tell why he’s been vice-captain for such a long time. I’m happy to be able to say I played with him.”
