Simpson happy Leicester have learned from title defence
Danny Simpson is confident that Leicester City will have learned their lessons from the 2016/17 and will come back stronger after the summer.
City embarked on an incredible run to the Champions League quarter-finals, having won the Premier League last season, but it wasn’t enough to save manager Claudio Ranieri’s job.
Ranieri was replaced by Craig Shakespeare who guided the Foxes to a 12th place finish in the league, the worst finish of any returning Premier League winner.
But Simpson is optimistic the club have the necessary building blocks with which to construct a successful campaign come August.
He said: “We’ll reflect on this season now. There’s been a lot of highs and lows, but it’s all experience and I think every single one of us will benefit from this season and take it into next season.
“I think our goal was to try and finish in the top 10 and get through the group stages of the Champions League.
“We managed to go a step further in the Champions League by getting to the quarter-finals and we just missed out by a few points for the top 10.
“It’s disappointing but we’ll learn from it this season, we’ll build on it and we’ll go again next season.”
