Silva wants to restore confidence at Watford

New Watford manager Marco Silva has set his sights on restoring confidence at Vicarage Road – to players and fans alike.

Despite bringing about an upturn in Hull City’s results following his arrival in England in January, the 39-year-old was unable to help the Tigers beat the drop and walked away from the KCOM Stadium hotseat on June 23.

Silva, who helped Estoril win promotion back to the Portuguese top flight after seven years in his first job in management in 2011-12, wasn’t unemployed for long and was installed as the new man in charge at Watford on Saturday.

He replaces Walter Mazzarri, who left the Hornets at the end of the season after leading them to six straight defeats, and Silva is aiming to create a positive atmosphere at the club.

“First of all, I’m excited to be here, to start to work and to prepare for the next season,” said the new Watford chief.

“We will work hard to start well in the Premier League.

“Everybody knows it’s a hard competition but we come with confidence to improve every day and this is most important for me.

“This confidence, I will pass to our players and to our fans as well.”
