Allam disappointed to see Silva depart Hull

Hull City vice-chairman Ehab Allam has expressed his disappointment at the departure of manager Marco Silva but admitted he fully understands the Portuguese’s decision.

Silva resigned as head coach of the Tigers following their relegation from the Premier League with his exit confirmed by the club on Thursday.

And it didn’t take long for the 39-year-old to find new employment in the top flight, Silva signed a two-year deal with Watford over the weekend.

“I am obviously very disappointed, I liked Marco a lot and we had a fantastic relationship together. He’s done a fantastic job in difficult circumstances, coming in at rock bottom of the Premier League.

“He gave us hope when he had no hope the transformation of the squad has been a surprise to most of the fans, exciting football and always creating chances with lots of opportunities to score goals and win games.

“If you look at the home form in particular, such a massive improvement in the home form, a little bit disappointing with the away, because I think that would have made the difference to keep us up.

“Of course it would have been nice to keep him longer, there was a trigger in the contract to extend for a further year had we stayed up but unfortunately that hasn’t happened.

“It would have been nice to see him stay but I understand why a manager of his calibre would want to stay in the Premier League.”
