Sakho still training with Palace despite loan spell ending

His loan spell may have come to an end, but Mamadou Sakho has elected to remain at Crystal Palace in order to keep working on his fitness levels.

The 27-year-old is officially still a Liverpool player but, having strained knee ligaments in April, has chosen to stay in south London for the early stages of his recovery.

It is rumoured that his switch could still become a permanent deal, with Sakho falling out of favour under Reds manager Jurgen Klopp prior to his temporary departure from Anfield.

The defender also impressed during his limited time at Selhurst Park, helping the Eagles pick up 16 points from the six games that he completed – valuable in helping them escape relegation from the Premier League.

It seemed like that would lead to a permanent posting having impressed boss Sam Allardyce, but with the former England manager since departing his role, the Frenchman’s future has once again been thrown into uncertainty.

But in the meantime Sakho will be continuing rehab work in the capital, where the fans have been calling for him to stay, though Liverpool are rumoured to want £30m for his signature.

Sakho posted on Instagram: “Training now to be back at the top! Some holidays next week!”
