Kums set to leave Watford for his native Belgium

Watford midfielder Sven Kums admits he won’t be thinking twice about leaving Vicarage Road, with Ghent and boyhood club Anderlecht both vying for his signature.

According to reports in Belgium, the 29-year-old will sign in his native Belgium this week, and Champions League football could be the decisive factor.

The midfielder was signed by the Hornets last summer from Ghent before being sent straight to Udinese on loan,but began his career at Anderlecht, coming up through their youth system but failing to make an appearance for the first team.

“It would be a childhood dream to play in Anderlecht’s first team,” he said.

“The negotiations with Ghent and the supporters’ campaign on social networks have charmed me enormously.

“I had a personal interview with Hein Vanhaezebrouck, my best coach so far, and Ghent were offering me the same thing as Anderlecht – so it is a sporting choice.

“If I had opted for money, I would have stayed at Watford, but in one year the Red Devils are going to Russia to play the World Cup – and if I want to show myself to the coach, the Champions League is the perfect scene.

“I was dreaming of breaking through at Anderlecht, but I was not ready for that level, and I started again.

“Anderlecht always stayed in my heart. The British want to let me go but under certain conditions, hopefully an agreement may be found this week.”
