Gazidis sings praises of ‘world class’ Arsenal boss Wenger
Arsene Wenger continues to represent a perfect fit for Arsenal, according to club chief executive Ivan Gazidis.
Frenchman Wenger officially put pen to paper on a new two-year deal with the club on Wednesday, bringing an end to speculation over whether or not his 21-year-old reign was about to come to an end.
Wenger has faced fierce criticism from some fans this season as the team finished the league outside of the Champions League places in fifth place– although they did end the season with silverware courtesy of the FA Cup last Saturday.
Arsenal are widely expected to spend big in the upcoming transfer window as they aim to close the gap back up on the rivals.
But whatever players come in or leave this summer, Gazidis remains convinced they have the right man in charge.
“Arsene is somebody I have worked with for over eight years now, and I know the quality of the man, I know the quality of him as a football person and I know the quality of him as a human being as well,” he said.
“Those values that he has, those qualities, are world class in every respect. His DNA is the same DNA as the club’s. He is driven to move forward, he is driven to evolve and he is driven to achieve those objectives of winning for this club and making those fans proud.
“When you look at the world of football, and you think about the great candidates that there are – and there are many great coaching candidates in the world and Arsenal is a club that all of them would want to work for because of the things we represent in football – but when you look around and make that assessment, you don’t find any better candidates than Arsène Wenger.”
