Evra delighted with United homecoming for Carrick testimonial

Patrice Evra insists Manchester United will always be home after returning to Old Trafford to appear in Michael Carrick’s testimonial match.

The French left back, who spent nine seasons with the Europa League champions, is currently plying his trade in Ligue 1 with Marseille but returned to Manchester as part of the United 2008 XI.

And the 36-year-old was overwhelmed with the support he received during the match.

He said: “I always say, this is my home and I feel that way. Thanks to all the fans they are all amazing.

“For me it’s just a dream. Like I say I love Man United and I will always love Man United. It’s not a fake love.

“There’s just too much emotion, too much feeling to come back to the dressing room, to see the gaffer, the stadium, the fans, it’s just amazing.”

Evra also called for the fans to continue to get behind the Red Devils after a disappointing league season saw them finish fifth but with the silverware secured in the League Cup and Europa League.

“We need to be behind Man United always when they win or lose. If you love Man United you should never criticise them, you need to support them,” he added.

“When a player has a bad game, the fans never boo him. This year they qualified for the Champions League and some people said they did not play good football, but we are not in the circus.”
