Liverpool victory the highlight of my season, says Leicester’s Fuchs
Left-back Christian Fuchs has pinpointed the highlight of his Leicester City season – and it’s not the club’s memorable Champions League campaign.
The 2015/16 Premier League champions endured an up-and-down campaign last time out, with a slump in form resulting in the sacking of Claudio Ranieri in February.
Craig Shakespeare took over, and guided the Foxes to the safety of mid-table, as well as the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
City eventually finished 12th with 44 points from their 38 Premier League matches.
Leicester’s players received some criticism in the wake of Ranieri’s sacking, but beat Liverpool 3-1 in February in the first game of Shakespeare’s tenure with a superb display following five straight defeats.
And it is this game that has stuck in the mind of Austrian Fuchs, who signed for the club in 2015 from Schalke.
“I definitely have to mention the Champions League campaign but, for me, the Liverpool game at King Power Stadium was a crucial one,” said the 31-year-old defender.
“To come back after a lot of criticism and come back very strong with a winning streak [was great].
“There are a couple of moments but that one is a nice one to look back on.”
