Swans star Mawson linked with Spurs move
Swansea City star Alfie Mawson is reportedly a transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur as a potential replacement for Kevin Wimmer.
The defender was in just his first year in the Premier League last campaign having signed from Barnsley, but wasted little time adjusting to top-flight life since making his debut against Watford in October.
That culminated in 27 league appearances, also scoring four goals to end the season in style as the Swans escaped relegation, taking 13 points from the last 15 on offer.
With that form behind him, Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham are rumoured to be interested in his signature, though Mawson himself has signified his intentions to become a leader with the Welsh club over the next few years.
The 23-year-old has impressed enough to be part of England’s U21s at the 2017 Under-21 European Championships in Poland, despite being released by Brentford just a couple of years ago.
He has gone from strength to strength since then however, with £15m believed to be the sum needed for him to head to White Hart Lane next season.
Spurs boss Pochettino has also been linked with a bid for Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling as Wimmer prepares to leave in search of first-team football.
