Swansea City chairman ushers Baston towards the exit door
Swansea City appear determined to jettison their club-record signing.
Last summer, the Swans – then under the stewardship of Francesco Guidolin – shelled out £15.5million to sign 24-year-old striker Borja Baston from Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish striker had scored 22 and 19 goals respectively during successive season-long loan spells at Real Zaragoza and Eibar but struggled to make an impact in the Premier League.
With injuries disrupting Baston’s introduction to the English game and countryman Fernando Llorente establishing himself as the club’s first-choice frontman, he mustered just a solitary goal in 20 appearances in all competitions.
The striker played just 547 minutes of Premier League football, just 79 of which came under current boss Paul Clement, and Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has confirmed he is looking to offload the former Spain youth international.
Another Spaniard whose time at the Liberty Stadium could also soon come to an end is defender Jordi Amat.
The 25-year-old, who arrived from Espanyol for £2.5million in June 2013, was called upon just 11 times in all competitions last term.
“Borja Baston didn’t play many games last year, mainly due to Llorente’s good form, and Amat is another who didn’t play as often as he would have liked,” said Jenkins.
“It’s about finding something in the market that suits them – it could be a loan or a transfer.”
