Kompany praises City fans after injury setbacks
Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany has hailed Citizens supporters for their unwavering support during his time on the sideline, citing fans’ loyalty as a big factor in his return.
Many feared for Kompany’s career when the skipper suffered a series of injuries during Pep Guardiola’s first season in charge, after two years out of action.
Despite suffering 36 different injuries throughout his nine-year City career, the Belgian played in City’s last eight games on the bounce – a feat he had not managed for over two seasons.
And the central defender, who has quickly re-established himself as the rock of the City defence, paid tribute to the unique treatment he has received from those inside the Etihad.
“If I’m honest, City fans have always been appreciative of a bit of a struggle, and what comes out at the end of it,” he said.
“You don’t get judged, and you don’t get thrown away because you struggle at City.
“That’s something to be associated with the Manc in general, so it’s always been a good place for me to come back and to keep fighting.
“I’ve not been ostracised, or put aside by anyone. People have been understanding and they know I have always done everything I could to come back.”
