Jordan not jumping for joy over De Boer’s Palace arrival
Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has questioned the imminent appointment of Frank de Boer as the club’s new manager.
De Boer looks set to be named as successor to Sam Allardyce, who quit at the end of the season, in the coming days.
But Jordan says he would have preferred to see another British manager appointed at Selhurst Park, although he admits there were not too many options domestically.
“I have to say I am not jumping for joy,” Jordan told talkSPORT.
“Over the last three or four seasons, Palace have been able to pluck one of the well thought of, established Premier League managers, in [Tony] Pulis, [Alan] Pardew and [Sam] Allardyce.
“This would be a complete departure going for a foreign coach and for me, it is quite disappointing, but we are where we are.
“De Boer – what will he bring? A reputation borne out of the Eredivisie, but when he stepped up to a bigger league, a more competitive league, he came up short.”
Meanwhile, De Boer’s brother Ronald expects the incoming Palace boss to speak to Everton manager Ronald Koeman to get the lowdown on the Premier League as he looks to make a better fist of it than a short-lived spell at Inter.
“For sure, he will definitely probably call him,” Ronald de Boer told talkSPORT.
“That is normal – Frank [de Boer] and Ronald [Koeman] are friends with each other so for sure, he will ask him for some advice.”
Koeman and De Boer played for Holland at the same time during their playing career.
