Wijnaldum hitting the right notes with Liverpool teammate Stewart
Georginio Wijnaldum’s rendition of Three Little Birds may have caused a flutter among Liverpool fans this week but the midfielder’s confidence comes as no surprise to teammate Kevin Stewart.
The Dutchman was one of a handful of Liverpool summer signings who were shown on film this week singing in front of their teammates in what has become an initiation tradition at the club.
Compared to others, Wijnaldum fared rather well as he belted out the Bob Marley classic which has become a favourite among the Kop.
And Stewart – who himself has enjoyed his moment in the spotlight of late having progressed from playing for Swindon Town in League One this time last year to becoming a valued member of Jurgen Klopp’s Reds squad – admitted he was enjoying having the new recruits around – especially the charismatic Wijnaldum.
“They’ve all really settled in well, both playing and with their personalities in the changing room. It’s like they’ve been here longer than they have,” he said.
“There’s still a lot of gelling to do, but it’s been good.
“He [Wijnaldum] sits right next to me so we talk a lot! He’s come in, played well. You can see he’s a good player, and he’s a good personality as well – a funny guy.
“He [Klopp] came in and had a lot of belief in us – maybe he believed more than some of us believed in ourselves.
“He’s just trying to get all of our qualities out of us. There’s no doubt about the qualities we have, it’s just about getting them all out and showing them.”
