Tite: Man City signing Gabriel Jesus is the real deal
New Manchester City signing Gabriel Jesus has blossomed during his time at Palmeiras according to new national coach Tite.
The 19-year-old was hailed as the star man as Brazil beat Ecuador in a World Cup qualifier, scoring two goals as the Selecao secured their first victory in Ecuador for 33 years.
Tite previously coached Brazilian giants Corinthians to league, Libertadores and Club World Cup titles and tipped his cap to Palmeiras coaches past and present for their contributions to his development.
“Cuca, Marcelo [Oliveira] and Oswaldo [de Oliveira] worked with Gabriel. It helped me a lot, I talked to them,” said Tite.
“It is my thanks. The victory was very much thanks to them.”
Pep Guardiola splashed £27m on the Palmeiras forward, beating Barcelona and Bayern Munich to the signature of the highly-rated youngster, who won gold with Brazil at the recent Olympics in Rio.
Jesus will remain in the Brazilian league season until early December and current coach Cuca believes City have got a bargain.
“He is 19 years old, will turn 20 and will learn a lot over the course of time,” he said.
“Credit to Gabriel because he wanted to stay [until the end of the season]. If he wanted to leave, he would have. I am very happy with his professionalism.
“He gives his life in games and in training he does the same thing. He’s a golden boy, and no doubt will take off further in his career because he is a great professional.”
