Fletcher’s dreaming big
West Ham new-boy Ashley Fletcher described his first Premier League start against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium as a dream come true and is now hungry for more.
After growing up in Manchester and progressing through the ranks at Old Trafford as a youngster, Fletcher always had thoughts of playing against arch rivals City.
The 20-year-old striker was allowed to leave Manchester United in the summer on a free transfer and head to West Ham, where he has made an instant impression.
He came on as a second-half substitute against Astra Giurgiu in the Europa League and then made his first full start before the international break against Manchester City.
It’s exciting times at West Ham presently, a summer switch to the Olympic Park has raised expectations and Fletcher is determined to cement his place and write himself into Hammers’ folklore in the season ahead.

“It was everything I dreamed it would be,” he said.
“Making my debut back in Manchester, where I’ve grown up and doing it against City, one of the best teams in the country, unfortunately we couldn’t get the result, but it’s a day I’ll never forget.
“I’ve settled in very well, everyone’s welcomed me with open arms, the players, the fans and all the staff, so I’m loving every minute.
“My personal ambitions are to get as many games and as many minutes as possible.
“Whether it’s starting games or coming off the bench, I want to be involved as much as possible. I think I’ve made a good start and made an impact so far and hopefully that continues.”
