Afobe happy to wait for Bournemouth chance

He may not be the Cherries first-choice hitman just yet, but Bournemouth’s Benik Afobe insists his lack of a Premier League start so far this term is not concerning him.

The 23-year-old, who signed for the south-coast club in January for £10million from Wolves, came off the bench in Bournemouth’s home defeat at the hands of Manchester United, but otherwise has been unused by Eddie Howe.

Afobe scored four times in Bournemouth colours following his mid-season switch, and is confident he will be bursting the net again sooner rather than later – with the Cherries facing Tony Pulis’ West Brom on Saturday.

“I’ve had a good pre-season. I went away and worked hard,” he said.

“I’ve been on the bench for the first three games at the moment but it’s a long season. The manager spoke to me and I believe in everything he says and I believe in everything he does with the club.

“I’ve always been a team player in the sense of working hard for the club, for the squad and for all the boys and when I do get my chance, I’ll be looking forward to taking it.

“We were disappointed to concede in the last couple of minutes against Crystal Palace and the West Ham game as well, but with ten men we held on so well.

“It just shows there’s a thin line in football and we’re not too far away. Just a few different changes and a few different things and hopefully we can start picking points up again.

“We want to give our fans a great show every week. They’re fantastic and we want to give them much more than we have in the past and hopefully this is the season where they can enjoy more here at the stadium.”
