Holebas not fussed with ending Watford drought

It’s been 17 games in the making, but Jose Holebas was finally able to end his goal drought for Watford – although the Greek defender insists it’s not something that’s bothered him in the slightest.

Holebas thought he had got off the mark last season against Everton, but with the strike adjudged as a Seamus Coleman own goal, the wait had to go on to break the Hornets duck.

But he was finally able to hit the target in victory at West Ham, scoring the fourth in a resounding comeback at the London Stadium.

And while the wait is still ongoing for a maiden effort at Vicarage Road, the 32-year-old was more concerned with the first-half performance rather than being able to find the net for Walter Mazzarri.

“I’m happy to score, but it’s also important that we won the game,” said the Greek international.

“I don’t care who scores the goals, I’m a team player, so if I don’t score then I don’t care, because we win and lose as a team.

“You always learn in football. Last week, people were mad with us, and it’s difficult to come into the next game.

“But we stuck together, we conceded two early goals, but to come back from that was really good.

“But we know we need to have that from the first minute. We need to perform every game like we did when we were losing.”
