Palace winger Zaha only available for £50m

Winger Wilfried Zaha may have had an inconsistent start to the new season but he will not be allowed to leave Selhurst Park for anything less than £50m, according to manager Alan Pardew.

The 23-year-old was targeted by Tottenham Hotspur this summer but the Eagles refused to sanction a deal after the North Londoners fell well short of their asking price.

Zaha impressed as Palace secured their first league win of the season at Middlesbrough on Saturday, as he crossed for Christian Benteke to score before netting the winner in the second half.

And Pardew insists there is much more to come from his star winger this season.

“Of course I sat down and spoke to him. I want someone to blow the doors off if they’re going to come for him, not have him go somewhere as a squad player at £16-17m,” he said of Tottenham’s interest.

“When you see someone put £50m down that’s when you think about it. That assist for the first goal – I can’t ask for more.”

Zaha rejoined Palace last year after an unsuccessful stint at Manchester United, but Pardew can’t understand why his attitude was ever questioned at Old Trafford.

“Trust me; I’ve been in the position when you can’t get anything out of a player. Us Premier League managers pull our hair out. That’s not been the case with Wilf,” he said.

“If I was to mark him out of ten I would give him a ten, that’s how good his attitude’s been.”
