West Ham’s Adrian waits on Spain call
Having had his first taste of an international environment West Ham United’s Spanish stopper Adrian has declared himself desperate for more.
The 29-year-old was the only uncapped player named in the Spain squad to play a friendly with Belgium and World Cup qualifier against minnows Liechtenstein earlier this month.
With Manchester United’s David de Gea and former Liverpool stopper Pepe Reina also in the squad, Adrian’s participation was limited to a watching brief.
However, a lack of playing time certainly did not curb Adrian’s enthusiasm.
“It was a great moment for me to get called up for the Spanish national team,” he said.

“It’s my fourth season at West Ham so the team has played well with great performances and with the new Spanish manager [Julen Lopetegui] they have, he’s given me the confidence to be one of the three keepers in the squad.
“I just keep working and want to do my best to get more caps.
“I have worked a lot because when you play most of the games, you get more experience.
“The Premier League is, for me, the most competitive in the world. If you’re a No1 for your team you get more experience and grow up with the team.”
