Carroll vows to force his way into Tottenham’s first team

When Moussa Sissoko and Victor Wanyama arrived at Tottenham Hotspur this summer you could have forgiven Tom Carroll for thinking his days in north London were numbered.

But, after penning a new three-year contract with Spurs, Carroll is ready to repay Mauricio Pochettino’s faith and force his way into the first team.

After two loan spells at Leyton Orient, Carroll made his Spurs debut in a League Cup tie at Carlisle United in September 2012 and has now notched up 54 appearances in Lilywhite.

His last Premier League start though, came in January in a home defeat to eventual champions Leicester City.

But the 24-year-old said: “We’ve a top squad here full of international players, so it’s hard but you have to keep your head down, keep working hard every day and see where it takes you.

“I know if I get a chance I have to take it.

“I’ve seen a lot of players come and go and I’m delighted to sign an extension and see what this season brings.

“We’ve had a lot of home-grown talent come through the system in the last few years and now there are younger lads coming up again and it’s great to see their faces with the senior squad.”
