Fellaini: Manchester United’s heads are down

Marouane Fellaini admits heads are down at Manchester United and that now is the time to turn things around.

Three losses in a row have dampened spirits at Old Trafford after Jose Mourinho’s new-look United had made an encouraging start to the season – winning their opening three Premier League encounters.

United take on Northampton in the third round of the EFL Cup, on Wednesday, with their next Premier League test coming on Saturday, as they welcome champions Leicester to the Theatre of Dreams.

And Fellaini said they need to react quickly, to stop the losing run.

“Yes it [the mood] is low but we are men and we must stand up together and show ourselves,” said the 28-year-old. “To lose was a tough moment but we must be ready to go again on Wednesday.

“We need to focus. At the moment heads are down but, as I said, we must stand together and fight and show that we are confident.”

United were rocked by two late Watford goals on Sunday as Juan Zuniga and Troy Deeney heaped misery on Mourinho, after Marcus Rashford had equalised Etienne Capoue’s first-half opener.

“At half-time, the manager told us to come out and play with confidence and we did that by grabbing the goal,” added the powerful midfielder. “We played with tempo and we need to start doing that from the first minute.

“In the second half, we were much better. We kept the ball, created chances and played forward.

“We got back into the game at 1-1 but then we gave away the second goal by giving them too much space and not pressing the ball.”
