Bournemouth brush off Guardiola praise

Pep Guardiola dubbed Bournemouth the best team they had played this season but Cherries assistant boss Jason Tindall says his squad are taking the high praise with a pinch of salt.

Whether said in earnest or as a sly dig in the direction of fierce rivals Manchester United, Guardiola admitted his side had problems with Bournemouth’s build-up play – despite seeing out a comfortable 4-0 victory.

The Cherries return to action against slightly less glamorous opponents in Preston tonight with the EFL Cup back on the agenda and according to Tindall, improvement is needed regardless of Guardiola’s compliments.

“It was a disappointing result on our behalf,” he said.

“We weren’t at our best against probably one of the best teams in the world right now.

“Pep Guardiola’s comments were a nice compliment but we would have rather have taken some points away from the game.

“In my opinion he’s the best manager in the world and they’re the team to beat, but the game is now at the back of our minds for the time being and we’re fully focussed against Preston and progressing in the cup.”
