Foxes’ Hernandez praises Slimani-Mahrez partnership

Leicester City defender Luis Hernandez has hailed the goal-scoring exploits of record signing Islam Slimani and his link-up play with compatriot Riyad Mahrez.

Slimani opened his Leicester account with two goals on debut against Burnley in the Premier League before bagging the winner against FC Porto in the Champions League this week.

The 28-year-old Algerian got himself on the end of a Mahrez cross from the right to power past Iker Casillas at the King Power Stadium and Hernandez is desperate for their good form to continue.

“Slimani is a really good player,” said Hernandez, who also joined the Foxes over the summer and has played in both of their Champions League games this season.

“His welcome was really good – the same with me when I arrived here. I hope he will continue to score goals for us and make wins for us.

“He is unbelievable but he needs to continue doing this for the team. He is really happy and really good here. It is really good for us because when a player is happy like this I think it is important and shows.

“It is obvious that he and Riyad have an understanding. Both are Algerian and they are close, but our strength is we stay all together. This is important for us.

“It is good all the players are really happy. If a player feels good in the city he can do very well.”
