Baggies boss Pulis has no problems with McManaman

West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis insists he has no issues with midfielder Callum McManaman despite the 25-year-old not making a single appearance this season.

McManaman was Pulis’ first signing at West Brom for £4.75m in January 2015 having helped Wigan Athletic win the FA Cup the previous May.

But he has yet to be given a single start by the Baggies’ boss this term with the likes of Matt Phillips, Darren Fletcher, Nacer Chadli, Claudio Yacob and James McClean filling the midfield births.

Yacob has just signed a new two-year deal at the Hawthorns to further emphasise his value to the team in Pulis’ eyes.

“I’ve had a good chat with Callum, he’s good as gold,” Pulis said. “I haven’t got a problem with Callum. Someone said the other day he’s had a bad time here.

“Some players come into football clubs, they don’t settle for whatever reason, it doesn’t make him a bad person or a bad player, it’s just the way we’ve gone.

“He’s a good lad Callum, (he) has worked hard and trained well, but he’s not been in the team.

“As a manager you pick the players that suit the system that the rest of the players need to get you results.”

The Baggies, who sit tenth in the table, face bottom club Sunderland on Saturday.
