Guardiola hails key City star Fernandinho
Pep Guardiola has some of the best players in the word at his disposal, but the Manchester City boss has highlighted utility man Fernandinho as one of his most important players.
The Brazilian flattered to deceive under Manuel Pellegrini but has become a permanent fixture in Guardiola’s team, who sit top of the Premier League table.
Fernandinho has forged a blossoming partnership with new City player Ilkay Gundogan, while he has also played in central defence this season – providing a stable platform for the likes of Raheem Sterling, Kevin de Bruyne and Sergio Aguero to go forward.
And Guardiola hailed the versatility and attitude of the 31-year-old, who he describes as integral to City’s plans this season.
“That is because Fernandinho can do everything,” he said.

“What we have achieved so far would have been impossible without him. He is fast, he is intelligent, strong in the air and he can play in several positions.
“No sooner does he see a space than he runs there immediately. If you need someone to make a correction or a challenge, he sees it too.
“If a team had three Fernandinhos, they would be champions. We only have one and he is very important to us.”
