Allen relishing Stoke goalscoring exploits

Joe Allen is not exactly renowned for his prolific goalscoring but the Stoke midfielder admits he is enjoying his recent hot streak in the box.

Allen netted a late equaliser as the Potters snatched a point against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, having scored in Stoke’s 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion one week prior.

By the Welsh international’s own admission, neither effort will exactly be in the running for goal of the season with both poked home from close-range.

But after netting in consecutive Premier League games for the first time since October 2011 when he was with Swansea, the 26-year-old is already targeting more goals.

“It’s not often that I have been able to score in consecutive weeks, so I will enjoy this,” said Allen.

“They weren’t the most eye-catching of goals but they all count and I will take them – now I just want to add a few more to my tally over the season.”

The search for an elusive first Premier League win rolls on for Stoke as they have accumulated just three draws from seven league games this term to lie 19th in the table.

But Allen is adamant the team are heading in the right direction, even if the results haven’t necessarily followed yet.

He added: “I am sure the fans will have seen the progression we have made over the past couple of weeks and will be looking forward, just as we are, with optimism.”
