Amat not surprised by Swansea team-mate Fer’s scoring streak

Leroy Fer’s sudden goal-scoring streak might have taken some by surprise, but not Swansea team-mate Jordi Amat.

Midfielder Fer, who joined the Swans from QPR on a permanent deal this summer following a successful loan spell last season, has hit four goals in seven Premier League appearances this term.

The 26-year-old Dutchman kicked things off with the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win at Burnley on the opening day of the campaign, while he has also found the net against Leicester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.

And defender Amat is full of praise for Fer’s prowess in front of goal, insisting that he is reaping the rewards of last season’s loan spell.

“Leroy has proved to be one of the best players in our team,” Amat said. “He did well last season during his time on loan here, and that meant he didn’t need any time to settle this season because he knew the players and the club.

“His goals have been one of the positive things of our season so far.

“We know how crucial his goal was at Burnley, while he put us ahead against Chelsea at the Liberty.

“His goals are well deserved because he works hard in training and in the gym every day.

“Hopefully he will get a lot more before the end of the season – I am sure he will.

“But it’s not just his goals – as a defender it’s great to see your midfielders helping out and doing whatever they can to stop the opposition scoring.”
