Allen full of praise for White Hart Lane’s favourite Son

Clive Allen knew how to hit the back of the net during his playing days and he believes Heung-min Son’s golden touch is set to continue for a long time yet.

After an up-and-down first year in a Tottenham shirt, Son has flourished in the absence of the injured Harry Kane – scoring five goals in a superb September.

His and the team’s form culminated in a 2-0 victory over leaders Manchester City last Sunday with Tottenham now just a point behind in second.

And Allen – who is best remembered at White Hart Lane for an incredible 49-goal season in 1986-87 – says Son is creating massive headaches for opposing defences with his movement and pace.

“I think Son looks really confident and comfortable within the group at the moment and his goalscoring is showing that he’s a taker of chances,” said Allen.

“That’s good news because with the unfortunate injury to Harry Kane, we needed someone to take on the mantle of scoring consistently.

“Son is really positive in the positions he’s getting into and then when the chances are being created, he’s been very clinical.

“He also has a change of direction and pace which is always vital, especially in one-on-one situations. “As soon as you see him on the ball one-on-one you are confident he can go by the defender and with that in mind, team-mates will give him the ball and give him that opportunity to take players on.

“He looks a real danger at the moment and long may it continue.”
