Sturridge is heading in the right direction for Liverpool
Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge insists his heading ability is finally catching up with the rest of his skillset as he bids to re-claim a place in the Reds’ starting XI.
Sturridge scored a fine header for England on Saturday in their 2-0 win over Malta – nodding home from a cross from club-mate Jordan Henderson.
With Roberto Firmino leading the line for Jurgen Klopp’s in-form Reds, Sturridge has largely had to make do with cameos off the bench on club duty.
And with another England goal, the seventh of his career, now under his belt the 27-year-old is hoping the best is yet to come.
Sturridge said: “I don’t score a lot of headers but over the last couple of years I’ve actually started scoring them more often – so I think I might be getting the knack for it. But I don’t want to talk too soon!”

Next up in Group F for England is a trip to Slovenia, with the two nations set to face off on Tuesday night.
Sturridge added: “It’s going to be a difficult game for us but it’s about our preparation.
“We’re not worried about them, we’re worried about how we’re going to go out there and do what we do best.
“I was starting a lot before the World Cup, I was playing all the time, and at the Euros I started to play again. Hopefully now I can continue playing.”
