Musonda Jr: Terry is Chelsea’s father figure

Midfielder Charly Musonda Jr may never have spoken to Antonio Conte, but the Chelsea loan star has revealed club stalwart John Terry always takes a keen interest in the club’s youngsters.

The 19-year-old is currently enjoying life in La Liga with Real Betis, and Terry clearly doesn’t mind racking up the international call charges to keep tabs on Musonda.

It’s clear that after almost 20 years at Chelsea, Terry still has the club’s best interests at heart and is playing a pivotal part in nurturing the next generation of Stamford Bridge talent.

“He’s a player who watched the youth games a lot,” the Belgian star said.

“Even today, he’s in touch with me, with other young players, because he’s at the same club.

“He always gave me advice to be confident.”

And Musonda is grateful to the former England captain for helping to inspire confidence and pointing him in the right direction.

“He told me that if I trained with the first team, I’d be ready to play anywhere in the world,” Musonda added.

“If a player like Terry tells you that, if you train against a defender like Kurt Zouma who came from the French league, straight away you gain confidence.

“And development, it all stems from that!”
