Barry praises Gueye’s impact at Everton

Everton midfielder Gareth Barry has praised Idrissa Gueye’s immediate impact at Goodison Park, but admits he is surprised at how quickly the Senegal international has settled on Merseyside.

The duo have started alongside one another in every one of Everton’s Premier League games so far this term, although Gueye is yet to get off the mark in front of goal since his August arrival.

It is a partnership that continues to excite the Everton fans, but Barry admits it isn’t just the heads of the Toffees faithful that have been turned.

“Idrissa’s been unbelievable,” he said. “If you look back at the £7million spent, in today’s market, it’s not a great deal of money.

“He’s come from a relegated team where his confidence might be low, but he’s been anything but.
“He’s been the opposite, really positive and I think he’s surprised everybody at the club with what a good player he is.
“He’s full of energy and people will talk about that, but also on the ball – he wants it all the time, he’s confident on it and I think he can improve even more.”
