Man City’s winless run cause for concern for Pep

Five games without a win is something of a rarity for Pep Guardiola, and the Manchester City manager admits something has to be done about the recent record.

Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Southampton capped off a disappointing week for the Blues, following a heavy defeat in the Champions League to Barcelona – Guardiola’s former club.

You have to go back to the 45-year-old’s time at the Nou Camp for the last time he failed to win in five, while Nathan Redmond’s opener for the Saints ensured a sixth successive game without a clean sheet.

It was a point which saw City return to the top of the table but, having won their first five games in the Premier League, being among a gathering of five teams separated by just one point makes for far from perfect viewing for those at the Etihad Stadium.

But Guardiola insists there is still a togetherness within the squad to turn their run around.

“We are together,” Guardiola stated. “We spoke [in the dressing room] about the situation we have.

“We are going to accept the situation: five games without winning because something happened. We want to go up and up.

“I was a football player – I know this can happen. You can win ten times in a row and then you are not able to win five times. That is part of football. You have to accept that.”
