King backs Spurs to go close in title battle

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to win the title this year and should not be written off despite their dramatic implosion at the end of last season, according to former defender Ledley King.

Spurs blew a two-goal lead at Chelsea last year to gift the title to Leicester City and their form did not recover as they slumped behind bitter rivals Arsenal into third in the Premier League.

However, this season Mauricio Pochettino’s men have been very impressive and sit just a point off top, leading King to believe they can last the pace this time around.

“Everyone wanted to see how Spurs would bounce back after the end of last season and I think they’ve shown they are a team that have to be taken seriously as title contenders,” he said.

“I’ve been very impressed with them so far this season.

“Even when the team haven’t played to their best they’ve still managed to find a way to get a result and that’s what you need to do if you want to be a team that tries to win the league.”
