No regrets for Karanka as he reaches Boro milestone
Aitor Karanka’s tenure at Middlesbrough has been a rollercoaster at times but as he celebrates his 150th match in charge, the Spaniard has no regrets about taking the job.
Karanka took over at the Riverside in November 2013, having previously been assistant manager at Real Madrid, and led Boro back into the Premier League two-and-a-half years later.
It hasn’t all been smooth sailing however as, in March of this year, the 43-year-old left the training ground following a dressing-room row and considered his future at the club – handing the managerial responsibilities to his assistant Steve Agnew for the following match against Charlton Athletic.
Karanka ultimately patched things up and returned to the helm to lead Boro back into the top flight at the end of the season.

And with Saturday’s clash against Bournemouth his 150th in charge, the former Athletic Bilbao player is content with life.
“When I first met Steve Gibson I knew that it was the right decision [to join Boro],” Karanka said.
“It’s been almost three years, and the main thing is three years ago I had one job and that was to get Middlesbrough Football Club in the Premier League.
“We are here and the way we have achieved this is going together. It’s nice to be in the Premier League but it’s nicer when you have been fighting because you can enjoy it more.
“Now, we need to keep going together and keep fighting.”
