Schmeichel praises Burnley’s Heaton for United heroics
Burnley’s Tom Heaton was the scourge of Manchester United at Old Trafford yesterday and Red Devils’ great Peter Schmeichel believes the Burnley man produced one of the great Premier League saves.
Jose Mourinho’s side had a staggering 37 shots on target against The Clarets, but 30-year-old Heaton was inspirational between the sticks – no more so than when he did his best Schmeichel impression to deny Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s volley.
And the great Dane was clearly impressed by Heaton’s antics at the Theatre of Dreams as he helped salvage a point for Sean Dyche’s side.
“Tom Heaton’s save from Ibrahimovic is in my opinion one of the best in Premier League history. Just saying,” Schmeichel tweeted.

Heaton himself responded modestly to comparisons with the legendary stopper, insisting he did what he had to do to keep his side in the game.
“A couple of the lads were around me on the line so I thought I would try and get out to it and close the space and spread,” explained the Clarets’ skipper.
“Thankfully a fully extended arm, it hit the hand and it was a sore one of the elbow. But they’re never quite as sore when you save them.”
