Pep banks on speedy Sane

Pep Guardiola underlined Leroy Sane’s pace and versatility after bringing the German international to Manchester City.

The 19-year-old is the latest big money acquisition for City, who had already brought in Ilkay Gundogan and Nolito this summer, although he is not part of the squad that has travelled to Sweden to take on Arsenal in a pre-season friendly.

But with his ability to play in a number of positions , Guardiola believes the German has a big part to play in the upcoming campaign.

“Sane can play in five positions, he’s a young player, he’s fast. I am going to try to help him a lot to show his quality,” said Guardiola, who is positive about City’s preparations for the new season.

“I am very pleased with our pre-season and very, very pleased with the behaviour of all of our players.

“With my team we speak and we train, we help each other to see if we can press and build up from the goalkeeper.

“We have to try to help each other and go forward and be aggressive without the ball. I like to see the fight when we don’t have the ball because without that we can’t win anything.

“To know the players, you have to live with them, every day in training. Eat with them and talk to them. I think in terms of spirit and character we will be a real team and that’s what I want.”
