Matip loving life at ‘great club’ Liverpool

Joel Matip may only have joined Liverpool in the summer but the centre-back says he has already fallen in love with the Merseyside club.

The Cameroon international joined the Premier League team from German side Schalke on a free transfer, but he had a disrupted start to his time in the North West due to a foot injury.

But since forcing his way into Jurgen Klopp’s side, Matip has become a vital player – forging a defensive partnership with Dejan Lovren.

The Reds have made an impressive start to the season, and Matip is already fully immersed with all things Liverpool.

“It’s an honour and a joy to play for Liverpool. It’s a great club. I’ve been able to help the team get some good results and I am really happy to be here,” he said.

“For my whole life I was a Schalke fan. I grew up there and played for the club for 16 years. I worked hard and I had some luck along the way.

“My heart was at Schalke but now my ambitions are with Liverpool. I feel the soul of this club.

“This is a great club famous across the world for its supporters. Everyone respects Liverpool like no other club.”
