Lloris targets Spurs response to European disappointment

Tottenham need to bounce back from Champions League disappointment against Chelsea according to skipper Hugo Lloris.

The Frenchman was outstanding against Monaco on Tuesday, but despite his best efforts, Spurs went down 2-1 in the Principality to see their hopes of reaching the knock-out stages ended with a game to go.

While Tottenham have now lost three games in Europe this season, they remain unbeaten in the Premier League, but face a daunting trip to leaders Chelsea on Saturday.

However Lloris has urged his team to think back to their response to their last defeat in Europe, when they drew at Arsenal following a loss to Bayer Leverkusen.

He said: “It’s a big disappointment but we need to keep our chins up because it’s a big game on Saturday.

“I said the same after we lost against Leverkusen at Wembley, this is the best type of game to bounce back. The only thing is to digest the frustration of this defeat and look forward.

“Our fans, our club and most of all our players had a lot of expectations in this competition. We fought a lot last season to get this Champions League place.

“We’re very disappointed, very frustrated with the way we played, the way we started the game too slowly, too sluggish.

“Finally, I don’t think we deserved to win, Monaco were better in a lot of areas in the game.”
