Hammers’ Lanzini hoping to take inspiration from Old Trafford

Winston Reid’s goal has gone down in history as the strike that won the last ever West Ham game at Upton Park, and striker Manuel Lanzini is hoping to invoke the spirit of the Boleyn as they travel to Manchester United on Sunday.

The Hammers won 3-2 in May and striker Lanzini is hoping to repeat the trick at Old Trafford.

And while the Hammers took inspiration from their old home to win the game last season, the Argentine wants his teammates to make the most of their surroundings this weekend.

With Slaven Bilic’s side sitting just one point and one place above the relegation zone, the 23-year-old knows the importance of Sunday’s game.

“It will be a very difficult game, Manchester United are a big team, so we know it will be difficult but we are confident that the result is going to be positive,” he said.

“There are a lot of difficult grounds to go to – Old Trafford is definitely one of the more mystical places to go to. It is world famous, it can be challenging but also inspiring, it is up to us.

“I am really looking forward to the game, as a player you always want to play against the biggest teams and test yourself – our game on Sunday is definitely one of those games.”
