Nevin: Top four must be Chelsea’s aim
Former Chelsea midfielder Pat Nevin insists that a place in the top four should be his former team’s number one priority – despite them topping the league after seven consecutive victories.
The Scot witnessed his side come from behind against Tottenham to regain top spot last weekend, with Victor Moses’ late winner sending Stamford Bridge wild.
Chelsea’s turnaround in form is remarkable after a disappointing start – which saw them lose 3-0 to Arsenal in late September, and Blues fans are now dreaming of another title in May
But Nevin has warned supporters not to get carried away just yet, with the tricky Christmas period round the corner.

“As ever, no one is getting too carried away but my usual method these days of looking at the league table is to consider who is in fifth place and how much distance there is between us and them,” he said.
“It is of course Spurs who are a comfortable-sounding seven points behind, but had they won on Saturday that gap would only have been one point.
“There is no point in getting too ebullient, there is still a massive job to be done. Even if we are on a quite phenomenal run of wins, right now getting that fourth place and Champions League football has to be the priority.”
