West Ham United chairman David Gold defends club’s transfer record
West Ham co-chairman David Gold has defended the club’s record in the transfer window after being criticised by fans on social media.
Gold came under fire from supporters online after several of the club’s summer captures have failed to impact on the first team.
Simone Zaza, Jonathan Calleri, Havard Nordtveit, Gokhan Tore, Sofiane Feghouli and Alvaro Arbeloa were among the high-profile names signed by manager Slaven Bilic in the summer, as they looked to kick on from an impressive seventh-placed finish last season.
However, the Hammers are 16th in the Premier League, one point above the relegation zone, with just three league wins all season.

They were dumped out of the EFL Cup by Manchester United on Wednesday night, after Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Anthony Martial grabbed braces in a 4-1 win for the hosts to book their place in the semi-finals.
And the club’s poor run of form has led supporters to voice their displeasure over Twitter.
However, Gold hit back at criticism and pointed to the club’s other recent success stories in the transfer market.
Gold posted on Twitter: “Every club has its disappointing transfer deals, but we mustn’t forget our [recent] successes… Lanzini, Payet, Cresswell, Antonio, Kouyate.”
Another summer signing, young striker Ashley Fletcher, grabbed the Hammers’ only goal on Wednesday against his former club.
The Hammers host Arsenal in their next Premier League clash on Saturday.
