Pulis: West Brom form must continue ahead of transfer window opening

West Brom manager Tony Pulis insists the Baggies must maintain their Premier League form in order to improve their chances of bringing in new blood when the transfer window opens in January.

Pulis saw his side run out 3-1 winners against Watford, on Saturday, to provisionally move up to sixth in the table, with goals coming from Jonny Evans, Chris Brunt and Matt Phillips, to leapfrog Everton and Manchester United in the standings.

December sees the Baggies face Chelsea, United and Arsenal, three tough fixtures ahead of the window opening, but Pulis is confident his side’s standing in the top flight can help them attract new faces to the club.

“It gives us a platform going into the window and we’re looking to bring one or two players in. That’s the thing – the chairman will kill me for saying it but that’s what we’re trying to do,” he said.

“For the new owners this is a long-term project that they want to do properly – they don’t want to be throwing million and millions of pounds at it. They want quality over quantity and in January that’s what we’ll be trying to do.

“This was a massive game for us and we’ve got some real tough games, again, coming up – a real tough run of games.”
