Sanchez is best up top for Arsenal, says Wenger
Arsene Wenger admits Alexis Sanchez’ consistency in hitting the net has convinced him the Chilean’s best position for Arsenal is as an out-and-out striker.
The 27-year-old scored a hat-trick in Saturday’s 5-1 humbling of West Ham at the London Stadium to keep the Gunners three points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea.
That took his tally to 13 goals this campaign, and Sanchez already looks set to beat the 25 he bagged last season.
And after being involved in 24 goals in his last 24 appearances, Wenger is confident his talisman is more effective leading the Arsenal line than out on the wing.
“He has all the ingredients that you want for a centre forward,” he said.
“We all would love his qualities to play there. And I think as well, now, he is convinced that it’s his best position and in every game he has that as well.
“He maintains that focus and will always kill you when he can. He can always deliver something special because he can dribble, has a short backlift, and he has pace.
“So that’s why it’s interesting.”
