One week of hurt enough for Leicester’s Hernandez
A frustrating last-minute defeat in the Community Shield has left new Leicester City signing Luis Hernandez fired up to make an impact for the Premier League champions this season.
Hernandez, a summer signing from Sporting Gijon, was left angry after a Zlatan Ibrahimovic winner condemned the Foxes to a 2-1 loss.
Leicester’s new centre-back spent his youth career at Real Madrid before going on to make 127 La Liga appearances for Sporting Gijon.
And though he was happy to get a taste of Wembley in his first competitive appearance under Claudio Ranieri, he wants to use the painful loss as motivation to get their title-defence off to a flying start,
“I was very happy to play my first competitive game for the club but I am not happy about the result,” he said.
“I thought the team played a good game and we showed that again this season we can compete with the Premier League’s big clubs.
“I think it is important that we have the hurt in the next game on Saturday. I think it is important to start the season well after last season. I hope we can play well and get the win.”

Hernandez made a strong impression when coming on as a second-half substitute and he feels Ranieri’s side are showing more than enough attacking intent to scare the Premier League’s big spenders.
“We made many chances to score, but that is football. If you can score you must score and they have very good players who can score at any time,” Hernandez said.
“If we had taken one of our chances the game could have changed. But it isn’t just the result. I think we can be happy with the performance and be confident for the season.”
