Huddlestone fed up with ‘what ifs’ at Hull

Tom Huddlestone believes it’s high time that Hull City stop saying ‘what if’ and start putting points on the board in their fight for Premier League survival.

Hull are bottom of the table at Christmas – traditionally something that augurs poorly for staying in the division – although only three points behind 17th-place Crystal Palace.

The Tigers were impressive against West Ham last weekend, dominating the game as they hit the woodwork on three occasions and having a shot cleared off the line.

But they ultimately lost 1-0 to Mark Noble’s penalty, while Frazier Campbell grabbed a last-minute equaliser for Palace in a 3-3 draw the week prior.

Huddlestone describes these as hard-luck stories but the midfielder feels it is incumbent on the squad to start making their own luck.

“It was massively disappointing to come away with nothing last weekend,” said Huddlestone.

“It gets to a stage in the game when you start to wonder whether it’s going to be one of those days because it was probably our best overall performance of the season, and I thought we dominated for 70 minutes at least.

“We did everything the manager wanted us to, apart from put the ball in the back of the net.

“We should really have had three points, but it was another hard luck story and we can’t keep saying that and ‘what if’.

“The belief remains in the squad – if it didn’t we might as well pack up and give up now.

“We’re all giving it everything and it’s a case of creating that little rub of the green for ourselves. At the same time, we know we have to be more clinical to win matches.”
